Why Volunteer?
Volunteering is a great way to gain experience and contribute to your community! You learn new skills by trying new jobs. You might find something you'd like to do for a living! Employers and post secondary schools will be impressed that you took the initiative to learn new things and give your time. Best of all, you will be Making Your Impact- and helping people along the way!
The Paperwork Needed:
Start out by opening and printing the Volunteer Package for Youth. This package contains all the information you need to do the paperwork required to apply for a volunteer position at the hospital.
Please note: we can not guarantee a lot of hours each week. Generally youth volunteers are scheduled for one or maybe two shifts per week- sometimes more in the summer months depending on how much you are available through the daytime hours. Depending on where you volunteer, the shift could be 2-4 hours in length. It's a REALLY good idea to start volunteering in the summer months when you have more time through the daytime hours- but start the application process during March Break so all your paperwork is done well in advance. We have a lot of youth volunteers in the summer months!
Hospital Orientation:
All new volunteers receive orientation to the hospital. Contact Quinte Health's Volunteer Specialist Jay Moxness at 613-969-7400 ext 3376 to arrange a meeting and/or to chat over the phone about your interests and opportunities.
Once you discuss your interest in volunteering with Jay, we do provide the option to do orientation online. Print and fill out the Online Orientation Review Sheet, and complete it as you view the online orientation. Be sure to hand it in with all your paperwork to the volunteer office.
Please book a time to meet with the volunteer coordinator when all your paperwork is complete. The BGH Auxiliary Volunteer Coordinator can be reached at bgauxiliary@qhc.on.ca, or by calling 613-969-7400 ext. 2297 once all your paperwork is complete.
ONLINE ORIENTATION: Please ensure you print and have your Online Orientation Review Sheet with you, along with a pen in order to complete the required "review codes", which will be given out as you go through the video. Also, please print, or open Making Volunteer Services Accessible for reference as part of the orientation video. All the information covered is mandatory to ensure the safety of patients, family members, staff and volunteers!
