New cancer doc ready to help

And then there were two. After several years of searching, Quinte Health Care's regional cancer care clinic at last has a second specialist.
And new oncologist Dr. Jana Kankesan, 36, is already seeing just how badly he was needed. "It has been very busy,” a tired but cheerful Kankesan said Tuesday after a busy night on call.
He was already well-known at Belleville General Hospital, which is home to the clinic. Kankesan completed his medical oncology studies at Kingston's Queen's University and had been filling some shifts at BGH.
"I found the hospital and the environment here quite attractive,” he said."You do find a small-town feel but the hospital here is incredible.”
He said he was also encouraged by the Belleville General Hospital Foundation's support of the oncology clinic (see BGH Avengers story on this page) and by working with his new colleague, Dr. Roger Lévesque, who'd been working alone in the department. read more
