In Belleville General Hospital’s PACU, nurses Wendy Wild and Autumn Randall teamed up to organize a February Fitness Challenge in support of the Quinte Humane Society. Each participant registered for the challenge with a $25 donation. Then, participants selected a goal of 50 or 100km, which they pledged to walk/run/snowshoe/or hike within the month of February (steps at work did not count, as the idea was to be more active than normal).
Twenty-four participants from PACU, Same Day Surgery, Operating Room, and a couple of nurses’ families raised a total of $800 for the Quinte Humane Society!
“We wanted our colleagues to enjoy the challenge in the depths of winter to get outside more, reach a common goal and help each other along the way,” said Autumn. “In the end, I think the energy we gave one another, and pushing beyond our comfort zones, helped us all become better people in our daily lives. Plus, the Quinte Humane Society is always in need of any assistance to continue to care for vulnerable and abused animals, and we got to help them!”
