Karla Stoltz, a Hospitality Services Rep at Belleville General Hospital, was walking to work on the morning of December 5th when she slipped on ice across from the hospital and fell, badly breaking her hand/wrist. Jeff Kerr, Director of Supply Chain Services, was also arriving to work at BGH and witnessed her fall. He parked his truck, helped her off the ground, brought her to Emergency, helped her through triage, called her manager and checked on Karla several times throughout the day.
“I didn’t know Jeff but I recognized him from around the hospital,” said Karla. “I don’t know what I would have done without his help. I can’t express what a difference he made that day. I am truly grateful. He seemed to sense my shock and anxiety and he made me feel like I wasn’t alone, which was a huge deal for me.”
Karla underwent surgery and had a plate and seven screws inserted by Dr. Matt MacEwan. “Dr. MacEwan did an amazing surgery!” said Karla. “He came to the waiting room to ask my husband if my tattoo was of important significance. He has no idea how much it means to me that he ‘worked around it’. He has provided amazing care throughout my ordeal and deserves recognition for his amazing bedside manner.”
