ICU team presents $5000 cheque in support of Fort McMurray Hospital
This summer, the QHC Belleville General Hospital ICU Nurses set out to raise funds to donate to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray. Today, the nursing team presented the proceeds of their fundraising efforts- $5000- to Northern Lights representatives in Fort McMurray via skype.
When presenting the cheque, ICU RN Charlene Quinn explained, “One of our values at QHC is ‘imagine it’s you’ and that’s what we did.”
In May, staff at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre evacuated over 100 patients from their hospital as a wild fire forced a quick evacuation of the entire Fort McMurray community. There were patients, including babies requiring critical care. “They didn’t even know where their own families were and they were working to get others to safety,” Quinn explained. “They put the needs of their patients before themselves. We’re sending a message to our colleagues in Fort McMurray that we recognize what they did.”
This gesture of solidarity has been met with appreciation from their nursing colleagues in Fort McMurray and by the organization receiving the financial support.
“The Northern Lights Health Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to the QHC Belleville General Hospital ICU Nurses – led by RN Charlene Quinn – who generously raised $5000 in support of the nurses at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray,” said Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the Northern Lights Health Foundation.
“We also extend our thanks to everyone who supported their fundraising efforts. As our community heals from the trauma of the recent wildfires, these funds will have a great impact on health care providers and their patients.”
