Congratulations to our Quinte Health Care (QHC) teams for earning a 100% Conversion Rate Award from Trillium Gift of Life Network. The conversion rate is the percentage of potential organ donors (patients who die in a hospital setting and are deemed medically suitable for donation) who went on to become actual donors.
“Quinte Health Care has made an outstanding contribution to organ and tissue donation in Ontario and this award is a reflection of that important work,” said Ronnie Gavsie, President and CEO, Trillium Gift of Life Network. “The collaboration and partnership we have with our hospitals is critical to saving lives. Every Ontarian can play a part by registering to donate at BeADonor.ca.”
In 2019/20, Quinte Health Care had six organ donors (which led to 18 transplants performed from organs recovered), and 40 tissue donors, enhancing the lives of many!
“Many members of our teams have roles to play in organ and tissue donation,” said Linda Price, QHC’s Program Director of Critical Care. “This includes staff and physicians in our ERs, ICU, Surgical Department, Anaesthesia, Respiratory Therapy, Palliative Care, Social Work, Lab & Diagnostics, Support Services and many more. This achievement is certainly something we can all be very proud of.”
In addition to the Conversion Rate Award, a QHC physician received a special Donation Champion Award for her commitment to organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Congratulations to Dr. Mariam Harrison, Respirologist and Intensivist, for her advocacy! As a respirologist, Dr. Harrison has had the opportunity to care for patients with end-stage lung disease. She has seen the comfort families experience when they are able to donate the organs and tissue of their loved one, finding goodness in their tragedy.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone at QHC who plays a role in organ and tissue donation.
