Admission
During your initial registration at Quinte Health, you will receive an identification bracelet to be worn at all times while you are in the hospital. You will also be required to present your Ontario Health Card.
It is very important to bring your health card to each and every visit to the hospital, regardless of what service you are accessing. This card proves you are entitled to health services paid for by OHIP and is used to verify your identification within our hospital information systems.
Be Involved in Your Health Care
- Speak up if you have questions or concerns about your care.
- Tell a member of your health care team about your past illnesses and your current health conditions.
- Bring all your medicines in their original containers with you when you come to the hospital or to another medical appointment.
- Tell a member of your health care team if you have ever had an allergic or bad reaction to any medicine or food.
- Make sure you know what to do when you go home from the hospital. If you do not understand the instructions you are given for follow-up care, please ask the physician or nurse to explain.
Cellular Phones
The use of cellular phones and other wireless devices are prohibited in direct patient care areas. However, cell phones are permitted in non-patient care areas such as lobbies, waiting areas and eatery areas provided it does not violate respect for others' need for quiet and privacy.
Discharge
The usual discharge time is between 8 and 11 a.m. Your physician or nurse will inform you of your discharge date in advance, so you can make arrangements to have someone assist you in going home. This will ensure that we can provide beds promptly for patients requiring admission. If transportation is not available, the Unit Communications Clerk can arrange for a taxi to meet you at the main entrance. Prescriptions for medications may be filled at a pharmacy. There are several close to the hospital.
Fragrance Reduced
Personal fragrances can cause health risks in some people. For the comfort and safety of our patients, staff and volunteers, please refrain from wearing perfume or using other personal products with strong fragrances when you will be visiting Quinte Health.
If you are bringing a patient flowers, or having them delivered, please ensure that they do not have a strong scent.
Latex
Since latex can cause allergic reactions in some people, we ask that no latex balloons be brought into the hospital. Mylar balloons are allowed.
Pastoral Care
Clergy of all denominations are regularly at the hospital and would be pleased to visit you. Tell your nurse if you require a Chaplain and one will be contacted for you.
Chapels are always available at Belleville General Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospital, and a quiet room is available at North Hastings Hospital.
Smoking
Smoking is not allowed on any Quinte Health property, including inside vehicles in parking lots. Having smoke-free grounds is consistent with our commitment to provide the highest possible standard of care and to encourage wellness for our visitors, patients, volunteers, staff and physicians.
Your hospital stay could be an ideal time to quit smoking. Talk to your health care team about how we can help.

All valuables must be kept at home. Quinte Health assumes no responsibility for patient money or possessions (e.g., glasses, jewellery, hearing aides, etc.)
