The 2023 application process for the volunteer Quinte Health Board of Directors is now closed.
There has n ever been a more interesting or more significant time to be involved in local health care governance. With a new, shared purpose of “Creating healthier communities. Together” Quinte Health is building a strong future based on our strengths: our people, excellent care, compassion and strong connections. As a Quinte Health Board Member, you can have a meaningful role in this journey.
Serving on the Quinte Health Board has been an extraordinary experience. Our hospitals play a critical role in the overall wellbeing of our communities. Every day we impact the lives of hundreds of people and families. The work of the board is not simple nor easy, but the opportunity to contribute so significantly is profoundly meaningful and fulfilling.
– Nancy Evans, Board Chairperson

Skills and Experience
Applicants to the Board should have prior governance experience, preferably with a complex organization, and a basic financial experience. The Board is also particularly looking for individuals who are skilled in the following areas: financial literacy, including an accounting designation; community leadership; governance; and/or digital transformation. Applications from individuals with other skills and experience are also welcomed.
At Quinte Health we value everyone’s unique journey. We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from all qualified persons. We encourage women; First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas at Quinte Health to apply.
What to expect as a Board Member
The full Board currently meets about 10 times per year, including meetings, a retreat and education. In addition, Board Members are expected to serve on one or two committees, which each meet 6 times per year. Committee meetings are held over zoom and while in-person attendance is preferred for full board meetings, virtual options are available. Meetings are generally a few hours each, and there is also reading, meeting preparation and involvement in other events. In addition, it is appreciated if Board members can participate in and support some of the fundraising activities of our foundations and development fund to the degree the Director is able.
What to expect as a Committee Member
If the timing is not right to apply to be a Director of the Board, we are also accepting applications to be a voting community member on one of three Board Committees (Quality of Patient Care, Finance or Nominations). This is an opportunity to get involved in local health care, with a deeper understanding and contribution in one area of hospital governance. Committees meet about six times per year by zoom. Community members on committees then have the opportunity to apply for Board positions in future years.
Timing and Process
The deadline for applications is March 17. Applications will be reviewed by the Nominations Sub-committee of the board in early April, with interviews scheduled for April 17 and 18. The recommendation for new Board/committee members is finalized at the annual meeting in late June. Board applicants are offered an informal meeting prior to the interview stage if you would want to more about the Board and ask questions in advance.
