Belleville and Quinte West COVID-19 assessment centre winterization plansWarning - this news article expired on 2020-12-07. Information may no longer be accurate or applicable

As winter looms ahead with the promise of inclement weather, the COVID-19 assessment centres in Belleville and Quinte West are winterizing their set-ups. This will temporarily cause disruptions to operations.

Large Quonset (tunnel) tents are being erected at both assessment centre sites.

  • On Saturday, December 5th, the Belleville COVID-19 assessment centre will be temporarily closed for the day to allow for tent installation. Anyone seeking a COVID-19 swab will be directed to the Quinte West COVID-19 assessment centre.
  • On Sunday, December 6th, the Quinte West COVID-19 assessment centre will be temporarily closed for the day to allow for tent installation. Anyone seeking a COVID-19 swab will be directed to the Belleville COVID-19 assessment centre.

The tents will have two traffic lanes going through them to allow the current drive-through model to continue throughout the winter.

“The drive-through model is ideal because it is quick, safe, and effective,” said Jeff Hohenkerk, Quinte Health Care Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer. “The tents will provide protection from the elements, keeping COVID test-seekers, frontline staff, and the swabs dry. This move to winterize our operations means the assessment centres can continue delivering the same safe and consistent drive-through service they have been delivering over the past seven months.”
