GRAND OPENING EVENT
ANNOUNCING THE ENHANCEMENT AND RELOCATION OF THE CYSTOSCOPY CLINIC TO TMH
QUINTE WEST ON Thursday April 2, 2015: Patients from across our region who require urinary treatments/interventions will benefit from the enhanced design and alignment of services through the relocation of the Cystoscopy Clinic from QHC Belleville General Hospital to QHC Trenton Memorial Hospital. Thanks to the generosity of the community through the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, $704,000 was fundraised to enhance and relocate the clinic to TMH. The clinic is now aligned with other similar ambulatory services.
In recent years, Trenton Memorial Hospital has emerged as a highly successful model for ambulatory surgery and minor surgery clinics. Brad Harrington, QHC Vice President and Chief Financial Officer said efficient and patient friendly processes are hallmark features of the clinic suites. Access to surgical specialists have been enhanced with the provision of multi-purpose exam rooms, sufficient equipment and instruments, skilled staff, effective scheduling and improved patient and family way finding. “We are grateful for the support of our donors and the TMH foundation in this shared vision and provision of another clinic suite in this location to accommodate this level of service and the state of the art equipment for the Cystoscopy Clinic,” he said.
Categorized as an endoscopic procedure, cystoscopy is used by urologists to examine the entire bladder lining and take biopsies of any areas that look questionable. Patients who have been diagnosed with or present with symptoms that include blood in the urine, incontinence, a urinary tract infection, tumours located in the bladder, the presence of a bladder or kidney stone or an enlarged prostate are common candidates for cystoscopy.
Dr. Dick Zoutman, QHC Chief of Staff, said that having these services under the same roof allows patients to get the care they need more timely. “Now that the Cystoscopy Clinic has relocated to Trenton Memorial Hospital, we can diagnose, treat and manage patients with urological disorders from one location. Patients no longer have to go to different locations to get the care they need”. He said the relocation of the clinic to Trenton Memorial Hospital is a positive change for both patients and the Cystoscopy surgical team. “Having the Cystoscopy Clinic at Trenton Memorial Hospital not only provides a more efficient and patient friendly process, but it also allows the surgical team to do their job more effectively and efficiently,” he added. The clinic officially opened on October 15 and since then, more than 1940 patients have visited the new location.
Trenton Memorial Hospital has been taking care of Quinte West and Brighton residents for over six decades. It offers a full range of clinical and diagnostic services as well as out-patient surgical services, commonly referred to as ambulatory services. TMH Foundation Chair, John Smylie said that the Foundation is committed to the growth and expansion of services at QHC Trenton Memorial Hospital. “We are thrilled to be announcing today this new service offering at TMH made possible by the many generous donors in our community,” he said.
